Before your fitting

Wedding dress alterations timeline from enquiry to collection.

The best starting point is not a promise of a set number of fittings. Tell us when the gown will be available, which parts need attention and when you need it back. The appointment sequence and work between visits need to be discussed together.

An enquiry requests availability. The work, quote and appointment are confirmed separately.

At a glance

A clearer plan for your outfit.

The plan should identify what happens at each stage, what you need to bring and when the gown is handed over. Ask how later changes to shoes, undergarments or scope would affect the next appointment.

01The starting point

Before a fitting is confirmed.

Start with the information that affects the plan: the dress, shoes, dates and work. If the gown is still being delivered, say so. You can ask about availability before every detail is settled, but the fitting cannot assess a dress that is not yet available.

02Fit & construction

Agree what the fitting is checking.

The appointment needs the outfit as you plan to wear it. A change to the layer beneath the gown can affect fit, while different shoes affect length. Explain what matters most and ask about the limits of the fabric before a particular change is agreed.

03The details

Ask when another fit check may be needed.

The wedding dress fitting timeline depends on the work as well as appointment slots. A bodice change may need to be considered before finalising a hem. Ask about the sequence for your dress and what would happen if a later fit check raised another concern.

04A clear next step

Know what is checked before the gown leaves.

Collection should have a clear place in the plan, especially if you travel before the wedding. Ask whether you need to try the gown on and how any remaining concern is raised. Do not assume that another person collecting it can replace a fit check on you.

Discuss your alterations

From the first pin

From enquiry to an agreed fitting plan.

Keep the dress, proposed work and dates together in the conversation. Confirm the next step before relying on an appointment.

Request fitting availability
  1. Send dates and fit concerns

Include the wedding date, earliest collection deadline and when the gown will be available.

  2. Confirm the assessment

Agree the appointment location and items to bring. Discuss the proposed changes on the actual gown.

  3. Agree the work and checks

Confirm the scope, quote and any further fitting plan. Ask before changing shoes or adding another alteration.

  4. Review and collect

Check the agreed result and handover arrangements. Keep care or bustle instructions with the gown.

Plan with clarity

What affects the scope, quote and timing?

No price or turnaround is assumed from a photograph. Ask which work and arrangements apply to your own request.

Gown availability

The dress needs to be available for the relevant stage. Arrival delays and earlier alterations can affect the plan.

The agreed changes

The type and order of changes affect work between visits. There is no fixed fitting count for every gown.

Your own dates

Share travel and collection deadlines as well as the wedding date. Confirm actual appointments rather than plan around a generic lead time.

Before you visit

Prepare the details for your enquiry.

Use the list to explain the request and prepare for a separately confirmed appointment.

  • Gown and separate overskirt or accessories
  • Actual wedding shoes
  • Planned undergarments or shapewear
  • The wedding and travel dates
  • A list of fit concerns and other planned changes

A few things to know

A few questions before you enquire.

These answers explain the process and limits. Details for your own outfit must be confirmed after assessment.

How many wedding dress fittings do I need?

The gown, work and fit checks determine the plan. Ask about your own dress rather than assume a fixed number used for another bride.

Is a standard lead time promised here?

No. Availability and the time needed depend on the request. Send the dates early and wait for the actual appointment and work plan to be confirmed.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

No deposit amount or payment rule has been supplied for this site. Ask about the terms when a fitting or quote is discussed.

Can I change shoes after the hem is marked?

Tell the fitter before making that change. A different sole or heel can affect the agreed length and may need another assessment.

Does the form confirm the booking?

No. It sends an enquiry. The appointment, scope, price and timing are confirmed separately.

Where can I read more about fitting numbers?

The guide on how many wedding dress fittings you may need explains the factors to discuss without promising one standard package.
