Bridal planning guide · Brisbane

What to bring to your wedding dress fitting so the right details are there.

Bring the real outfit choices into the fitting wherever possible. A different shoe or layer beneath the gown can change the discussion. If an item is still on order or undecided, tell the fitter before treating a length or fit as final.

An enquiry requests availability. The work, quote and appointment are confirmed separately.

At a glance

The useful starting point.

Prepare the outfit and the information together. A clear list of fit concerns, earlier work and deadlines can be as useful as a photo. Do not assume a substitute shoe or different undergarment will produce the same proposed fit.

01The starting point

Use the shoes the hem needs to work with.

The fitter needs to see the gown with the footwear planned for the day. A shoe with the same stated heel height can still change how you stand. Tell the fitter if the chosen pair has not arrived, or if you want to discuss a later shoe change.

02Fit & construction

Keep the layer beneath the gown in the plan.

An outfit can sit differently over different underwear. Let the fitter know what you plan to wear under the gown and bring it to the confirmed appointment. If you change it later, ask whether the proposed fit needs checking again.

03The details

Include the pieces that change the outline.

A detachable skirt or sash is part of the outfit, even when it is not part of the main dress. Tell the fitter about each piece before the appointment. Ask what should attend, especially when an attachment or separate layer affects where the fabric sits.

04A clear next step

Make a short list before you arrive.

Try the dress on safely beforehand and write down the main concerns. Explain what matters most and which changes are optional. A clear priority list helps distinguish a fit need from a design idea. Confirm the proposed work before assuming every item can be included.

Before you visit

A practical checklist.

Keep the relevant outfit choices and questions together.

  • The gown and all relevant separate pieces
  • Actual wedding shoes, plus any planned second pair
  • The undergarments you intend to wear
  • The wedding date and collection deadline
  • Details of earlier alterations or repairs
  • A short list of fit concerns and design priorities

A few things to know

Questions about the guide.

These answers explain the process and limits. Details for your own outfit must be confirmed after assessment.

What if I have not chosen my shoes?

Tell the fitter before a final hem length is agreed. Ask which parts of the assessment can proceed and which may need to wait for the actual shoes.

Should I bring shapewear?

Bring it if you plan to wear it with the gown. The fitting should reflect the layers beneath the dress, not a different outfit choice.

Can someone come with me?

Ask about attendance when the appointment is confirmed. Do not assume there is space for a group at every fitting.

Do I need every accessory?

Ask which pieces affect the fit or attach to the gown. Separate skirts, belts and similar items can be important even if a decorative accessory is not.

Should I bring a list of changes?

Yes, but describe the concerns rather than assume the technical fix. Mark which changes are essential and which are optional design ideas.
